A key focus of my practice so far has been adaptive teaching. I have delivered lessons using a range of demonstration methods to ensure accessibility for all the students. For example, in a lower ability Y8 Food and Nutrition class, I scaffolded learning through ‘just-in-time’ demonstrations, modelling each stage before the students attempted it themselves. This approach resulted in high quality outcomes and increased student confidence. One of my most memorable moments in teaching occurred during this lesson when a student with EAL, SEND and selective mutism produced the highest quality work in the class. His pride and joy were evident, and it reinforced for me the transformative power of thoughtful, inclusive teaching.
