I am very happy with the progress I have made with my Y9 class. When I initially told the class I was going to take their lessons, one of the girls shouted ‘No’ at me! Since this was my first time teaching a class, the first few lessons were not ideal, with me trying to figure out the class. I gradually built up relationships with the class as well as the quality of my teaching. On the first assessment with this class, scores had taken a bit of a dip from previous assessments, but these improved over time with me improving as well. Some students are now getting full marks on their assessments with others wanting to engage with their marks and asking me how they can improve, something which they would not have done before. In terms of the relationships with the class, some of the more challenging characters are now working well, even if still pushing back sometimes. Lots of the students are comfortable making mistakes and are able to have a bit of banter with me and each other without taking it too far. And most of all, the girl who did not want me to teach the class will willingly speak to me on the corridors and has told me that she loves my lessons and looks forward to them!
